– About me –
As a Dallas, Texas based photographer I work with home décor and home furnishings clients to deliver bright, captivating lifestyle photography that helps to tell their story and sell their products.
I create images bathed in authentic-looking sunlight—without the actual sun.
With my 15 years of experience I craft my lighting style to look natural and effortless, When the lighting isn’t overbearing, it allows the viewer to concentrate on the contents of the image — that is, the product.
This is what light can do.
Natural-looking, realistic light invites you into the space, gives a sense of familiarity and create an emotional connection that sells.
– Experience –
Throughout my career, I have been blessed with incredible opportunities and gracious mentors.
Working for RR Donnelley, one of the nation’s largest commercial photography studios, gave me eight invaluable years of photographing for home improvement brands, furnishing companies and big box retailers. From these large productions, I learned skills that few have the opportunity to learn firsthand. In 2012 I opened Aaron Dougherty Photography LLC to concentrate on the work I enjoy the most—room scene photography for decor and furnishing clients.

– Testimonial –
In addition to his photography skills, Aaron brought a fun and positive personality to his set each day and led his team efficiently to keep the project on schedule. He is professional, well organized and always proactively communicated the status of his projects to me. He is a skilled, collaborative photographer and would be an asset on any shoot.
Studio Producer, Pier 1 Imports
For my seasonal decor catalog photoshoot, I was in need of a photographer that would adapt quickly to my visual aesthetics and be flexible to my critiques. Aaron fit my needs perfectly.
His strong portfolio stood out so I contacted him. He asked all the right questions about the project which reassured me of his experience with this type of work. In the end, Aaron proved to be as talented as his portfolio led me to believe. Our collaboration was an enjoyable experience on a demanding month-long photoshoot.
I’ve worked with many other photographers and none have measured up to Aaron’s collaborative spirit, creative understanding and drive to “get it right”.
He gets the underlying business needs and artfully combines those with his keen photographic sensibility, to consistently produce work that exceeds expectations.
– Why Me? –
You’ll really like me because:
- I won’t just show your product. I’ll make it inspirational for your viewer.
I want your customers to see themselves in the room. That’s what I think about every time I’m considering the lighting and composition of your photos. Great home décor photos are about more than taking a picture of your product and putting a price tag next to it. Lighting is powerful. Room scenes are powerful. I harness the power of beautifully-lit room scenes to inspire and create emotional connections.
- I’m friendly, easygoing and collaborative.
I think out loud. I’m good at putting visions into words so that we can move forward in the right direction—the direction you want. I honor teamwork and maintaining an environment that is open to new ideas and creativity.
- I’m technically passionate (or maybe it’s called obsessed).
I enjoy creating things. In the past, I was a carpenter. I enjoyed creating something and stepping back and seeing what I made. From a technical standpoint, I’m driven to do things better and better. I love understanding the nuances of light and replicating it, in all its beautiful authenticity. I’m proud of my work, and of the great client relationships I’ve built.
- I don’t play it safe. I make it real.
Other photographers might play it safe with lighting. Because of my expertise, I don’t play it safe—I make it real. Not only with my lighting, but with my process, communication and collaboration. Everything from beginning to end.
- Light that looks and feels natural.
When lighting isn’t done right, it’s not realistic, not optimally flattering, and it doesn’t create an emotional connection because it doesn’t feel real. I use natural lighting and supplemental lighting to create bright, natural-looking light with genuine and appealing shadows, midtones and highlights that create depth and contrast that appeals to eyes, minds and emotions.
Most of all:
- Your products will look great.
- You’ll get amazing imagery.
- Your marketing will look, feel and engage better than ever.
- Working together will be easy, collaborative and enjoyable.
Aaron took the time to listen and understand our needs, and added his own ideas and suggestions so that we got everything we needed from our photoshoot with him. From his thoughtful proposal to delivered images—Aaron was truly a pleasure to work with every step of the way.
